Knee Pain

How to Stop Chronic, Annoying, Daily Knee Trouble and Pain WITHOUT Needing to Take Time From Training, Needing to Wear a Brace, and WITHOUT Pain Meds, Injections, or Surgery

If you have Knee Pain or Stiffness, it can be very tempting to just attribute it to "sleeping wrong" or "lifting something awkwardly," saying that it will "just go away." OR you or a loved one or a medical professional relates it to you "getting older" and you should "take it easy" and "accept it."

There seems to not be an obvious reason for why this happened to you - but all of the above does not seem to be making things any better either.

If this is happening to you (or a loved one) right now, just know...you are NOT alone - we hear this all of the time. In fact, Knee Pain is one of the MOST common ailments we see in our Mobile Physical Therapy Practice Throughout Nassau and portions of Suffolk County.

When it comes to living with knee pain, everybody we see wants to know:

"Why is this happening to me?"

or

"Why does it rear its head when I try to be active?"

or

"Why am I still putting up with Knee Pain and suffering with this for 6 months (or maybe more)"

Most people believe that their knee pain will go away on its own

Feeling that one morning you will wake up and , "Magic!", it will be gone forever...but in reality, you are still dealing with it. Sometimes months and months later with an experience that is worse than when the condition initially began.

 Does That Sound Like You?

Another commonality that is seen throughout our practice ALL OF THE TIME is when people go to the Doctor, and the Doctor will tell them "try these pain medications" and "see how it goes."

But this is rarely the best advice and 6 weeks later when they tell you to return, you still have the pain you had before. Worse, the Doctor will either recommend an additional medication, a higher dosage of the medication you were already not getting relief from, or an injection. Additionally, you will be probably advised to take MORE rest. This is madness and why many endurance athletes and active adults continue to suffer with chronic knee pain.

Has This Type Of Thing Happened To You?

Why else does knee pain last longer than it should? It is no wonder so many people (including your family) are confused because you have been told different things from different people. Often, people come across that the advice they get is conflicting. There are many people out there (including family) who are willing to give out advice - but not all of it is credible or helpful.

Maybe you feel that your knee pain may be caused by lifting something or running awkwardly. However, in reality it is more related to years of repetitive activity that has created compensations creating weakness in your knee. The act of lifting or sleeping awkwardly was only the EFFECT of that

If you do not know what you are doing and have even tried to fix it yourself - knee pain can be very confusing and because of this, many people can end up just "accepting it" as part of their life - as if it is "normal" or "just the way it is" or "my dad/mom had knee all of his/her life so I will eventually too."

Sound Familiar?

If You Are Currently Living With Knee Pain, Below are 7 Reasons Why It Could Be Lasting Longer Than It Should:

  1. You thought it would go away on its own...but it didn't

  2. You went to the Doctor who told you to "rest it" and take pain medications or anti-inflammatories...but this did not do anything to help your knee. And when the effects of them wore off, you were back to being in pain...still not doing the sport or things you love to do.

  3.  A family member or a friend told you that knee pain is normal as you get you get older and you should "just accept it"

  4.  You have tried working with other Health Care Professionals or a Physical Therapist in the past but nothing they did or said seemed to help much

  5. You have tried fixing it yourself with YouTube Videos or other "How to" guides and it either did nothing to help at all or made it 10X worse

  6. You thought it would be better to just rest it in the hopes your knee pain would settle but all it did was make you more stiff and sore

  7. You decided to get a few "massages" hoping that would fix the pain, but all they did was feel nice and relaxing, and didn't do anything to fix you pain long term...

What Can I Do To Get Rid of MY Knee Pain Quickly?...

Well, there are 4 things you can do:

1.) Initially, you need to first make the right decision about getting help. There are hundreds of people out there just waiting for something magically to happen in order for them to get better. Procrastinating to get help because they are fearful that if they give it a try, nothing will change. Many people wait to "see if it goes away" but 6 months down the road it is still there...or it is even worse.

2.) Next, do the right exercises...the best thing to help ease your knee pain is to apply the appropriate stresses through exercise gradually and progressively. Getting the appropriate exercises from a Physical Therapist will not only alleviate your pain and get you moving freely quickly, but will also prevent the pain from returning.

3.) Avoid sitting and extended periods of rest - have you tried getting up in the morning or up from the sofa after sitting for a while? How much did struggle because it was so stiff and painful? This does not have to be the way whether or not you are an athlete. Too much rest will only precipitate the problem and could make it worse if you try to rest even more. Making sure you are getting the appropriate strengthening exercises, along with effective hands-on treatment will help you get healthy, active, and back in your life or sport quickly

4.) Get real, hands on Physical Therapy - Physical Therapy has been proven time and again to help those with knee pain get pain free. In fact, at Ascent Physical Therapy it is one of the most common ailments I see.
